I’d like to give a round of applause to Shawano County 911 Telecommunicator Kim Krause and Deputy Sheriff Chase Mason. They both went above and beyond their job titles, making a meaningful difference in a child’s life.

I don’t know if it’s just my area, but it seems like many departments are losing sight of what it truly means to protect and serve. The job is much more than responding to medical emergencies or issuing tickets. It’s about making a positive impact in the community.

Sometimes, I forget what the role entails, and reading stories like this serves as a powerful reminder: this profession is far more than just a paycheck. While I can confidently say that helping a caller with their math homework might not be in my wheelhouse, I’d be more than happy to send a patrol unit to assist.

This might not have been a life-or-death emergency to us, but for that child, knowing who to call for help made all the difference.

If I ever find myself in Shawano County, Wisconsin, the drinks are on me. Thank you both for your outstanding service!
